The US penned a deal with the European Union on Friday to supply at least 15 billion cubic meters of liquified natural gas, aiming to reduce the west’s reliance on Russian gas. The White House says that this amount is expected to increase in the future.
The EU and US believe this will give them stronger strategic footing, and avoid funding Russia’s war efforts with continued importation of oil and gas. They also announced the creation of a task force whose goal is to diversify LNG supplies toward climate objectives, and reduce general demand on natural gas.
